Special Education students at Alhambra High School make up an important part of the campus community. Through programs and support services, students receive individualized educational, prevocational and behavioral assistance through dedicated Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. AHS provides inclusive mainstream classes, specialized elective programs and targeted health services to help students succeed academically and personally. The department also emphasizes prevocational and vocational skills to help students build independence and prepare for life beyond high school. To celebrate students’ progress and end the school year positively, AHS Special Education students attended a Spring Social at West San Gabriel Valley Special Education Local Plan Area in Covina.
The event, officially themed “Under the Sea,” centered around aquatic life and brought together students with special needs from districts across the San Gabriel Valley. Hosted in partnership with San Gabriel High School, the afternoon gave AHS students the opportunity to socialize, dance and connect with peers in an inclusive environment. Students enjoyed music, food, activities and photo opportunities while creating memories with classmates, staff and friends. The event celebrated not only students’ accomplishments throughout the school year but also the friendships and sense of community that make experiences like these meaningful.
Events like the Spring Social highlight the importance of creating spaces where students from different backgrounds and experiences feel welcomed and valued. Opportunities for inclusion help students build confidence, develop social connections and strengthen a sense of belonging on and beyond campus. They also encourage understanding and acceptance among peers, helping create a school community where all students are recognized and supported. By promoting inclusivity, Alhambra High School continues working toward an environment where every student has the opportunity to participate, connect and thrive.
