On Nov. 13, an email was sent to school faculty, stating that Second Chance Breakfast would be removed from the nutrition program. In this letter, it was stated that Food and Nutritional Services indicated the Breakfast in Classroom program would replace Nutrition. However, not long after, an announcement was made that the Breakfast in Classroom program would be removed instead. With this update, Second Chance Breakfast will continue being served during Nutrition.
The reason behind this move was due to the reimplementation of the Point of Sale (POS) machines. In an Instagram post, the school district announced the return of POS machines, noting that all schools in the district will revert back to students entering their ID numbers in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch after Thanksgiving Break.

This was a system required by the California Board of Education but it was temporarily paused due to the Covid pandemic. The purpose of POS machines is to keep better track of the number of students getting food.

From Nov. 12-22, students were given the opportunity to practice entering their ID numbers into the POS machines. To verify identity, students had the option to enter their seven digit ID number, state their legal first and last name or scan the barcode on their ID cards.

Starting Dec. 2, POC systems will remain a part of the process of students obtaining breakfast and lunch at school.
