Unfortunately, the success of the junior varsity level in sports is often overlooked and the same goes for tennis. With a 1-1 record thus far in preseason, the girls’ junior varsity tennis team looks to enter the season with high spirits. Coming off their most recent league win against rival Mark Keppel, Head Coach Bill Yee expressed optimism towards the upcoming season.

“We’re close to being where we want to be. The girls are working hard and that translated into a win against Keppel,” said Coach Yee.

With every swing the Lady Moors are working toward their main goal of being at the top of league standings and ultimately, becoming league champions.

“I think every year one of the main goals echoed throughout the team is working to that number one spot. We want to be the best,” said co-captain Christina Tran.

Every day, Coach Yee continues to emphasize the importance of daily improvement and, with that, success on the courts will come. The players’ expectations this upcoming season are focused on bettering skillsets and creating better swings and stronger serves.

“This season, I just hope the players continue to improve; they’re a nice group of young ladies and I enjoy working with them very much,” said Coach Yee.

A good coach, along with a team of hardworking players, will surely produce positive results for the Lady Moors this upcoming season. With every swing and every bounce of the ball, whether favorable or not, the girls are bound to have a positively productive year. The Lady Moors will next travel to San Gabriel High School to take on the Matadors on Oct. 15 for their fifth game in the Almont League.
