With a preseason record of 3-6, the girls’ JV volleyball team has not started off as well as they had hoped, but are looking to improve for league games. Their very first preseason game of the year was against Flintridge Prep, where they won the first set and lost the last two.

“We thought we would win but we let our ego get the best of us. We felt disappointed because we could’ve done better if we stayed focused,” captain Sharon Huynh said.

Sometimes expecting a win is not always the best answer, but they still had faith in each other and themselves. In the game, it is always important to stay focused and not get distracted.

“My expectation is that we continue communicating, working harder and play with all of our own best ability to keep the game in play,” libero Jennifer Phuong said.

For the team, communication is very important. They play as a team whether they are inside or outside of the game.
“My team’s overall strengths is that they pass very well. The girls are great listeners and are becoming more confident with themselves and each other,” Head Coach Guzman said.

Passing is tough, but not for the girls when it comes to receiving serves. The team always stays focused and confident with a positive attitude.

“Positive attitude is the best quality I see in a player; if they have a positive attitude, that carries over to everyone else. I expect them to always try their best, never to give up, do their job and to believe in themselves and each other,” Coach Guzman said.

The team’s next game will be on Oct. 13 against the Bell Gardens Lancers and they are looking forward to a great game.
