The Alhambra cross country team has been hard at work since summer, putting in countless hours to try to improve themselves. The team practices about two hours a day, spending approximately 40 minutes to get prepared and warmed up for their daily run.

“It is definitely important to stay healthy by eating the right food. Eating the right food doesn’t only help your physically but it also helps with you mental strength,” head coach Guajardo said.

The team runs for about seven to eight miles every day to condition themselves to be at their best once their season begins.

The cross country team has high hopes to do very well this year and to exceed expectations that have been set by past years. The goals of the team’s preseason are to gradually increase their run distance per week and be prepared for the coming races and meets.

“Personally, I plan to mentally prepare myself because I know that the physical capability is there for me. I have trouble getting mentally prepared but I think that by having strong workouts, I’ll be able to build the confidence I need to run really well. Also bonding with the team usually helps me prepare because support is really important when it comes to sports,” co-captain William Rodriguez said.

They also prepare by making sure they have the necessary equipment to run safely, as well as to have them physically active. Their equipment can go a long way in preventing injuries throughout the season.
