There is lots of controversy surrounding the wage gap between male and female athletes. They should be paid the same if they play the same sport.

Just because they’re women does not mean they should be treated differently; it was their choice to do what they’re doing. If they do the same thing and train the same way, why shouldn’t they be paid the same? It is 2015 and we need to move the gender inequality and make some changes. It’s time to get paid the same, if we have the same job the payroll shouldn’t be different just because of the gender.

This argument can go both ways but why I say they should get paid the same is because we are all equal, yes, the men get paid more because they make more revenue but if women got paid it can make audiences interested and roll in more money than ever.

If you found out that someone else with the same skill level as you was making triple and double your salary, just like in sports today, I’m sure you would be upset too. The payroll should be based off your skill and not the gender you are and that’s why both male and female athletes should be paid the same.

Professional sports dictate entertainment and with entertainment comes paychecks. One lingering issue concerns the salary difference between male and female athletes. One factor that affects their salary is advertisement.

Typically, men’s athletics are advertised more because they tend to attract bigger deals for economic markets. It’s possible that we can bridge this gap but until then, female sports cannot pay their athletes the same amount because their budget doesn’t allow them to or major debt will ensue. Another factor is that professional leagues tend to differ between genders. For example, the NBA has more teams than the WNBA because of institutionalized sexism. This means that there is more income generated and more athletes. All of this ties back to the athlete’s salary. Because the NBA is bigger than the WNBA, their owners are able to pay their players much more than the WNBA.

It might not sound fair for male athletes to make more than female athletes. However, this is due to advertising and league size. If these factors were to change, then it’d be much easier to close the gap between the genders. But until then, male athletes will continue to make more than female athletes.
