It has been six years since the varsity boys’ water polo team has had the opportunity to play at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) preliminaries, This fall, they once again succeeded in making it to the first round. The team’s league record stood at 2-2 before they played the Mark Keppel Aztecs. With a 4-2 victory, the Moors secured a spot in the playoffs.

“We were overjoyed that we beat Mark Keppel at first; CIF was just the cherry on top at that point. In the beginning of the season we didn’t even think of making CIF at all,” captain Brandon Wong said.

Although qualifying for CIF was not easy, the team agrees it was worth the long hours they have spent working on plays and various techniques, and was a payoff for all the hard work they have implemented through this season.

The first round of CIF was held on Nov. 11 against Sage Hill High School at Granada Park. Though the team did
not move on to the next round, they were proud to have made it so far.
