Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team Aiming For Goal Of New Season Alongside New Coach
Despite difficulties with the rainy weather,
on Dec. 3, Lady Moors varsity soccer managed to pull out a win
against the South Pasadena Tigers, defeating them 2-1.

With the new season kicking in, our varsity girls’ soccer team has been working hard and kicking soccer balls on a daily basis. Coming back from an undefeated season, the girls believe they can accomplish a lot this season.
Last year, the Lady Moors took first in the Almont League standings and qualified for the first round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Two girls tied for Almont League’s Most Valuable Player. Although the team has already moved up a division from last season, the Lady Moors strive for more. They hope to make it to CIF, pass the third round and remain undefeated league champions.
“This season will be very different without our old coach, but we are making the best we can with our situation and the new coach,” junior Vivyana Prado said.
Nabor Solis is the new varsity coach. Before coaching varsity girls’ soccer, he was the JV girls’ coach for about four years, and had coached the boys’ soccer team before. Many of the girls had no trouble adjusting to coach Solis.
The girls practice four days a week for two to three hours at Moor Field. During practice, they run, practice passes, ball control, defensive and offensive plays and play scrimmage, mainly focusing on teamwork skills.
“I’m really glad [Solis] is our coach because he is an excellent mentor. He gets along with the team and it feels like one big family,” junior Christine Gomez said. “I’m looking forward to [future] games.”
The Lady Moors had their first preseason game against San Marino on Nov. 25. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, the team defeated the South Pasadena Tigers with a score of 2-1. However, the Lady Moors followed that with a loss to the Temple City Rams with a score of 0-3 on Dec. 4.
