Performing hip-hop and jazz, AHS’ Orchesis is a dance team comprised of 40 females.

Competing locally, they won second place in two competitions last year. This year, the team decided to change things up and train their prospective members early in the summer. They practice twice a week for two hours; however, they will also practice every weekday for two weeks straight to prepare for upcoming competitions. A lot of time is put in towards the many things Orchesis has to do, so they have to balance out their schedules in order to maintain academic excellency.

“Orchesis taught me the true meaning of teamwork and the best part of it is that I can share the stage with my fellow team members,” said Orchesis Captain Nicky Ng.

Family would be one of the more prominent words to describe Orchesis. Many people nowadays are driven by the need to win, but Orchesis doesn’t strive to win. Instead they strive to have as much fun as they can with each other. Winning is unnecessary as long as they can share the same stage moments with each other. Bonds like this are what truly make a family, one where each other presence matters.
