Coming off a successful 2018-2019 season, the baseball team looks to push even further this year. They finished nearly undefeated in the regular season and made a fairly deep playoff run. The Moors have started the 2019-2020 season with a loss against the Los Altos Conquerors, a tie against the Muir Mustangs 3-3, and a win against the San Marino Titans 3-1. With a loss and a tie in their first three games, the Moors have started off a little slower than last year, but players are confident in their ability to rekindle their previous success.

“We basically have the same team from last year minus a few players, so that same efficiency and level of play will be present,” senior Jacob Miravete said.

While the Moors do have a lot of returning players, some positions and rotations have been swapped around in order to compensate for the loss of last year’s seniors.

“I think in order for us to stay efficient this year we don’t need to change much,” Pitcher Victor De Leon said. “We just need to stick to the game-plans our coaches set up for us. We need to play together regardless of changes and different players leaving.”

In their game against the Hamilton Yankees, the Moors picked up a win at a score of 8-1. Senior Lenny Ariaga led the charge offensively going 3 for 4 with two runs batted in at the plate. Pitcher Joey Estrada pitched five innings of one run ball and ended with a line of one run, one earned run and 10 strikeouts. Estrada’s ERA now sits at 1.40 for the season.

Currently, the Moors sit at the top of the standings at 1-0, tied with the Oilers and Spartans for first place. The next league game takes place on Tuesday March 10, against league rivals the Schurr Spartans. It will be an away game at 3:15 p.m. The Moors look to take the lead in the Almont League standings.
