Two of the biggest teams in all of Europe faced off in the Supercopa España over the weekend. Atlético Madrid and Real Mardrid, clashed in the Madrid Derby.

For many of Atlético’s players and their manager Antonio Simione, it was yet another defeat to the same club that has been haunting them for years. In league matches Real have also been dominant over their counterpart leaving them against Barcelona to duke it out for the League Champs. Although Atlético have made immense progress to catch up with the other two Spanish giants, they still lack the final cutting edge that is necessary to win them trophies and will likely go another season without winning anything.

The game started and Real Madrid started with a very quick pace, they completely dominated the first few minutes and most of the first half. Atletico had a couple of clear chances but could not finish them. The game continued to be 0-0 so they needed to go to extra time, and neither of the teams were able to score.

”I was hoping for the game to be much more entertaining given how hyped up it was,” senior Sharif Diallo said.

Both teams were then required to go to a penalty shootout to decide a winner. Atletico Madrid started badly and missed their first penalty and Real Madrid took advantage of it by scoring all of their penalties. Sergio Ramos, the captain of Real Madrid, shot the last winning penalty. Real Madrid became Spanish Supercup winners. Their coach has won all nine finals.
