All summer long, the cross country team has been hard at work, spending countless hours training for their upcoming season. The runners have all been making an effort to return to in-season shape. The athletes who joined the team this year are also progressing exceptionally alongside the experienced runners.

“The returning members, in addition to the newcomers, are making this team much stronger than we have ever been in previous years,” Head Coach Sandra Guajardo said.

With continued effort coming from the runners, the team is looking forward to a successful season. The team has been having a great preseason because of how smoothly the team cooperates with each other.

“We are doing optional races during practice to increase our skill levels and competitive mindset,” Captain Yaneli Guajardo said.

Even though many students believe that cross country is ‘just running’, it is so much more than that. It takes a great amount of determination and perseverance to improve records and exceed personal expectations. All the runners have been training vigorously to improve their technique and get faster than they have ever been before.

“People are dedicated and have been all throughout summer, the coach is doing a great job monitoring our focus by checking our daily attendance,” returning junior Dylan Chen said.

The team believes that it will eventually obtain what it takes to compete and win against rival schools. Hopefully, with all their hard work the great effort will pay off when the season finally starts and they race against other runners. With all this in mind, the team’s first races are coming very soon. The Moors will compete at their next invitational meet as they travel to Woodbridge High School on Friday, Sep. 16
