Nothing beats the feeling of being the best team out there and the girls varsity tennis team has once again become just that. Coming off their most recent win against rival Mark Keppel with a score of 12-6, the team has once again secured the top spot in Almost League standings, as well as a trip to CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) team playoffs. This successful year did not come easy; every day the Lady Moors were out on the courts working to improve every aspect of their game.

“The whole team has just become more accurate [with the ball], and due to greater team effort, there has been higher quality practices,” senior captain Tiffany Chan said.

These quality practices have ultimately resulted in a league record of six wins and zero losses, the best in the Almont League. The team’s performance has been spectacular, as shown by their record. However, the team is barely content with their performance, and the players expect to do even better as the regular season ends. With a successful group of Moors, there are always great expectations and a desire to reach higher levels of accomplishment.

Having already secured first place in the Almont League, the team now looks to place focus on preparing for their first CIF match, hoping to improve upon the previous year’s performance. With their first match expected to take place in early November, the team expects to work even harder in order to better prepare for the succeeding in the playoffs.

“I predict that we’ll have more conditioning and practice will become more focused in order to better prepare us for facing teams outside of our league who we may have never heard of,” Chan said. “Last year we made it to the second round [of CIF] before we were closely defeated by Garden Grove, and this year we hope to make to the third round, if not further.”

Whether their goals are reached or not, the 2015 girls varsity tennis season has been a success. Every laugh and every cry, every win and every loss, was shared by the whole team, together. As the team approaches their final two games of the season, they can look back on their season and know that they reached this point through their constant support for one another and their determination to work hard and improve every single day of the season.
