Homecoming is one of the most meaningful events in the school year that many students look forward to. This year, Homecoming will be celebrated in the forms of a parade, a carnival, a football game and a dance again. Inspired by the movie The Wizard of Oz, the theme of this year’s homecoming dance is “There’s No Place Like Homecoming,” with gold, silver and emerald as the theme colors. The dance will be held in the Gym on Oct. 24.

On Oct. 23, the second annual homecoming parade will start at 4 p.m. at Fourth Street and end around 4:30 p.m. at Moor Field. It will include the Mighty Moor Marching Band, clubs and Alhambra City Council members. Club participants will be holding their club floats or banners while marching alongside at the parade. There will also be a carnival at Moor Field where various clubs will set up booths to sell food or play games.

Before the game, clubs and football players will take part in a mini parade around the Moor Field to kick off Homecoming. The pre-show will incorporate performances from the Cheer team and Choir. During halftime, Homecoming Court will be announced and the winners will walk down the yellow brick road on the field with someone who is special to them as their bio is read. Last year’s king and queen will come back to crown this year’s king and queen. This year’s grand marshals, which is the class of 1964/1965 football team, will walk down the field as well. The dance teams and band will also perform in halftime show before the game resumes.

“This year we are focusing on improving and making all Homecoming events better and bigger than ever before. Our biggest goal is to increase club involvement and student attendance at our Homecoming parade, carnival, game and dance,” said ASB President Kayiu Wong.
