With the upcoming season comes with lots of optimism for the varsity boys’ water polo team to make another California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff run. Wanting everything to go swimmingly, the team has put higher expectations on themselves.

“My personal expectations for this year is to be the top defensive and offensive player for the team, as well as being selected for first team all-league water polo. As for team expectations is being able to secure a spot in the CIF playoffs,” said by Varsity player Miguel Rubio.

Rubio feels they have a very realistic chance at making CIF playoffs after he won MVD (Most valuable defender) and was selected to second team all-league last year.

As for the team expectations with defense being a strong suit and the best defensive player in the league last year, they expect to be good in that category. Offense can be focused on and can make a complete and dangerous team in the water.

Expectations will keep going up and hopefully they can keep composure and live up to them. They believe in themselves and confidence is half the battle. Execution is another part, if they do what they did last year and build upon it, they should be in for a solid season.

“Expectations are to go to CIF two years in a row and get better as a team for league,” Coach Fabian said.

Everyone is on the same page and has one goal. Of course, everyone before a season is optimistic but after the results they had last years and just need to keep their head small, work hard, and improve.
