Coming off of a stellar performance last season, the girls varsity tennis team looks to enter the season with an optimistic spirit. With the loss of many of last year’s players, it will be a tricky preseason as the team tries to adjust to different members.

“The hardest thing about preseason this year has been finding the right doubles pairs, which would greatly impact the amount of games that we win,” doubles player Emily Tran said.

Trying to find partners that truly complement one another has proven to be an important issue during preseason, along with conditioning and getting back into season form. As the fifth week of the preseason draws near, the team appears to be doing well. However, with five win, one tie, and one loss record, there is still improvement to be made.
“[We are] not satisfied; the team hasn’t played to their capabilities yet,” said Head Coach Chow. “We will be successful if the team plays to its capabilities,”

When season comes, however, the team also has another goal in mind. Reaching California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) is the main one, but nothing beats the thought of beating rival Mark Keppel and being number one.

With steady improvement day by day, these goals appear modest. Preseason is the time to correct any errors and set new goals. Optimism, improvement and enjoyment will be echoed amongst the team as they look to repeat last year’s outstanding performance.
