ALA Festival Honors Dia de Los Muertos

For the past 14 years, the Alhambra Latino Association (ALA) has been organizing a cultural festival to celebrate diversity and raise funds for scholarships.
Titled “Dia de Los Muertos,” the festival is themed around the Day of the Dead. It is an occasion where the living honor the memory of lost loved ones.
“We are very excited about the event,” said ALA President and Spanish teacher Rosy Aguilar. “[It] brings a lot of history and culture together, even though it is a [very] personal event.”
Dia de Los Muertos, to be held in AHS on Nov. 6, will feature speakers and artists from throughout the area. Some participants include governor of trustees of the National History Museum, Carl Barron and altar artist Ofelia Esparza. Altars constructed by members of the community will be exhibited at the event.
Performances from the AUSD Middle School Honor Band and authentic Aztec dancers will be part of the festivities.
