As the spring season comes to an end, the varsity coed badminton team works hard to achieve their season goals. They aspired to strive for victories, play more aggressively and develop their newer recruits into superior athletes. The team did so by focusing on new members individually during their daily practices.

“We have a couple of outstanding varsity members who will be returning next year. This year we’ve also recruited many new underclassmen with growing potential for improvements,” senior captain Jessy Juanda said.

The Moors practice five days a week for about two hours a day at either Almansor Park or the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club. There, some techniques they practice are serving, smashing, driving, netting, crossing, dropping and footwork. The Moors believe that they have improved significantly since the beginning of the season, but agree that they still need to work on skills such as shots and plays, conditioning and refining techniques.

The team has currently played a total of 10 games, with a season record of 2-8. Their next game is League Finals, on April 30 at the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club.

“Our accomplishments were not what we had expected this year, but we can do it. Next year is our time to shine,” said sophomore Jack Thong.
