Drawing near the end of the winter sports season, the varsity girls’ soccer team is nearing their goal of becoming Almont League Champions and qualifying past the third round of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). The girls are motivated to play to their full potential and win the last two games of the season.

The Lady Moors continue to push through the season with five wins, two ties and one loss. They are currently tied for league champions with the Schurr Spartans with two games left in the season.

“The team has improved significantly from the first preseason game to now. We work better together on the field as well as in practices,” junior defensive player Christine Gomez said.

The girls continue to practice four days a week for two to three hours at Moor Field. For the duration of practice, they condition, run, execute passes and practice ball control, defensive and offensive plays. They also play scrimmage, mainly emphasizing understanding one another, teamwork and communication abilities with the assistance of their new coach this season.

“It has proven to be difficult adjusting to the new coach [Nabor Solis] this season, but I had confidence, and with time, the team adjusted,” senior captain Xiomara Diaz said.

The girls’ last two games of the season are on Tuesday, Feb. 10 against the Bell Gardens Lancers at Moor Field and Thursday, Feb. 12 against the San Gabriel Matadors at San Gabriel High School. These games will have a strong
impact on their CIF chances.
