As the gloomy clouds move away from the sky, the sun appears and the temperature rises, making it clear that spring is coming and the winter season is coming to an end. Practicing on the field with diligence, the varsity boys’ soccer team pushes themselves as they have only three games left remaining in league.

With a current record of 2-5, the Moors are currently in fourth place in the Almont League with hopes in making it into the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) preliminaries.

Having two wins against the Mark Keppel Aztecs and the San Gabriel Matadors, the team only needs to win one more league game to be in the top half of the Almont league, which means winning half the games and losing the other half. If the team qualifies in the top half of league, they are capable of entering CIF through a wildcard meaning they are not the top three in league, but their win-loss percentage is 50.

“I think we can make CIF through a wildcard, if we focus more on the game and give it all we have. We always feel intimidated by the other teams and we get nervous and start making mistakes, but if we focus and give it our best and believe we can win, then we will win,” senior forward and goalie Patrick Zydziak said.

The boys’ currently hold an overall record of eight wins, eight losses, and four ties. Because of the strong preseason, the Moor’s overall record is adequate for wild card entry. With two games remaining against the Bell Gardens Lancers and the San Gabriel Matadors, the team strives to practice meticulously so that they win at least one of the two remaining games.
