The frosh/soph track team began their season with a positive outlook towards upcoming games and Almont League. With the loss of many seniors, members of the track team must work harder than they did the previous season to achieve their goals this year.
“Weʼre preparing for league by practicing a lot harder than last year. Since [the seniors] are gone, everyone has to step it up,” one and two mile runner Abram Villanueva said.
The team begins their daily practices by stretching for fifteen minutes, followed by running two laps. Afterwards, they work on drills and complete a workout which is different each day.
According to Villanueva, doing the events in the preseason race lets the players know what they need to work on. For instance, the timing to pass the baton to the next leg and how they need to pace ourselves for the one mile and the two mile.
“The main thing that must be worked on is attendance. Some players have not been showing up to practice every day which affects the team,” 200m/400m runner Kenny Huynh said.
The teamʼs expectation for this year is to conquer league. The only teams that the players are really concerned about are Bell Gardens, Montebello and Schurr.
