With a team roster dominated with new athletes, the AHS JV boysʼ waterpolo team faces multiple challenges this season, including its many inexperienced players who have had little to no previous exposure to the sport.
However, the team is hoping to overcome these challenges by placing an emphasis on having every player perform to the best of their abilities rather than just focusing on attaining a notable Almont League ranking.
“Even if we were in last place, I wouldnʼt mind. The most important thing is that […] our team learns from [our] mistakes and […] gets better every time,” former JV Captain Richard Lam said.
Although a majority of the players are playing the sport for the first time, their natural inclinations towards the sport have served as a major advantage for the teamʼs performance.
“Sometimes itʼs really frustrating to play with a brand new team, […] but itʼs also really great to work with new people and to explore the teamʼs abilities because some of the new players are actually pretty good,” Lam said.
Although many of the players hold their own personal expectations regarding their individual contributions to the team, they all share a common goal: mastery of the sport and communication amongst one another.
