Hua-nestly Speaking: Presidential Concerns

SOPHIA HUA (Editor in Chief)

The first presidential debate was a complete disaster. If I had wanted to hear three people talking over each other and throwing insults around for an hour and a half, I would have just searched up videos from March of people fighting over toilet paper. Despite this, I did appreciate the way Biden occasionally looked into the camera with an air of pure exhaustion like a character from The Office.

As the night wore on, the constant interruptions really made me question how the U.S. had boiled its choices down to two candidates who cannot even follow a simple two minute speaking rule. Even the moderator was not safe from being talked over.

Perhaps the most concerning highlight to me was Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacists as well as his genuine belief that forest cleanup is the best answer to a question about climate change.

I have had serious concerns for our country since 2016, but they are only being exacerbated now. I have a feeling that this will not be the last time that I will be getting a headache from listening to a presidential debate.
