DANIELA REINOSO Staff Writer

Four games after their previous loss to the Schurr Spartans, the Lady Moors soccer team again faced off against their rivals. Since their loss against the Spartans the Moors have won both games they have played. Their first victory since that game occurred on Jan. 28 against San Gabriel, in which they won 4-0. Their next win happened on Jan. 30 against Mark Keppel. The score was 5-0.

The last time the Spartans and the Lady Moors met, they had to go to penalty kicks to determine the winner. This time around, the Moors lost 3-1 against the Spartans on their home field. Unfortunately, this loss has taken the Moors out of contention for a playoff spot. The players still look back on their season with a positive outlook.

“Unfortunately our loss to Schurr took us out of a chance to make playoffs, but I’m still proud of what we’ve done this year as a team,” Junior Maria Romano said.

Following this loss, the Moors are set to face the Oilers in their final game of the year. In this game the Moors will honor their 2020 seniors both on varsity and JV.  The seniors being honored are : Maribel Diaz, Analy Hidalgo, Claire Rodarte,Joanne Lopez, Miranda Guzman, Catherine Chavez, Bailey Crothers, Mellisa Badaillo, Sabrina Vazquez, Skye Juarez, Dianne Cornejo and Ashley Casteneda.

“I feel like we really grew as a team. At the beginning it was tough connecting since some of us came from other sports and we had underclassmen on the team play for the first time,” Romano said. “I’ve been on varsity since my freshman year and I’ve grown with them. I’ll miss their enthusiasm and dedication to the team.”

Despite the loss against the Spartans, the seniors on the girls soccer team will always remember their season as a time of happiness and further bonding.

The Lady Moors soccer team’s next game is a home game tonight against the Montebello Oilers at 4:45 p.m. at Moor Field.
