Suspensions and expulsions are issued when an individual poses a threat to their fellow students or members of AHS faculty.
The majority of these incidents were related to physical altercations or the threat of injury. Drug related offenses made up a third of the incidents. Other violations involved stolen or damaged property, obscene acts and habitual profanity. The students suspended were overwhelmingly male: out of 37 suspensions, only three were female. The expulsions consisted of four female and five male students.
Ultimately, the statistics are indicative of a positive trend at AHS. Relative to last year, both suspensions and expulsions have decreased markedly.
“Suspensions and expulsions have decreased compared to last year,” said Assistant Principal of Student Services Phuong Nguyen. “Cooperation between staff and students has made the campus a better environment.”
