The advent of Youtube has been the catalyst for the creation of viral videos. Short, comedic clips are a major source of entertainment for users surfing the internet. However, traditional film making is not a forgotten art.
AHS’ own Film Society is currently producing and preparing their own interpretation of traditional cinema for their annual Xanadu Film Festival.
Scheduled to be held in April in the auditorium, the festival will be an event open to a wide range of aspiring filmmakers. They will have opportunities to submit their work in several different categories, which include animation, short film, feature film, public service announcement and stop motion.
“Filmmakers from AHS, Mark Keppel and San Gabriel High School will be participating at Xanadu,” said senior Alan Wu. “Around twenty films were submitted last year, and we expect more submissions this time around.”
Open to all applicants, Xanadu is meant to be a non-competitive experience that acknowledges artistic excellence in film.
A panel of three judges will be created from filmmakers and enthusiasts from around the community. The films will be judged on creativity, editing and musical composition.
