The girls volleyball team has been working hard every day in practice to make sure they are improving in as many ways as possible. They are trying to learn as much as they can and are finding ways to improve as a team and prepare for their next game. They have been looking to fix each mistake  in order to be at their very best.

“We are definitely working on skills that can be improved and strengthened,” Co-Captain Emi Takemoto said, “As a team, we are doing our best to communicate well so we can work together.”

They are focusing on developing their communication and teamwork so they can perform better as a team. The captains are making sure that each person knows their responsibilities and is able to do their job well and execute during practice and at the games.

“For the past few games I think it has been challenging and difficult to adapt to the major transitions and new positions,” Co-Captain Jennifer Phuong said, “We have been working hard to bond with each other and adjust to the new changes; and we feel motivated to encounter all the challenges that will be thrown at us as a team.”

Following back to back, 0-3 losses to Flintridge Prep and El Monte, the girls won their first game on Tuesday, Aug. 29. So far, their preseason record is 3-6. They are 3-2 at home and they are yet to win an  away game. They defeated South El Monte at home with a score of 3-2. They showed great effort and teamwork during the game and managed to pull off the victory. Through good teamwork and execution, they proved that they could bounce back from some tough losses. Both of those losses were away games and having the South El Monte game at home had a positive impact on their performance. The energy from the crowd drove them to victory. Having their fellow classmates, friends and family there encouraged them to do their absolute best.

“The overwhelming support from the crowd and knowing that we are playing on our home court gave us some extra motivation to win,” Takemoto said.

Their next game is their season opener against San Gabriel on Sept. 21 at home.
