The JV baseball team has been off to a excellent start this season. Having 7-2-1 so far, the team’s only loss was against the rival Montebello Oilers. With a new group of talent, the players played uneasily in the preseason. However, they have started off beyond expectations and proved the doubters wrong.
“We can still improve on taking team at bats and understanding situations while on the bases. An obstacle faced this season is kids not trusting themselves and not having the competitive drive to succeed. But, I always see us winning league,” Coach Chance Beal said.
Even after a good start the team still has room for improvement with taking better at-bats and increasing work ethic. The team has proven to the school and others that they are a great team and now the only obstacle is to prove they can beat rival team Montebello Oilers, which, they came close to doing the last time they met.
“We have the started season stronger this year but we’re picking up the pace with a winning record and it looks to be another winning season. I believe it’s been rough having a lot [more] younger players than previous seasons but we will improve over time and keep grinding it out at practice,” junior catcher Alex Mojarro said.
Having veterans like Mojarro and an outstanding coaching staff, the junior varsity team looks to have a successful season. Along with quality work ethic and dedication at every single practice, the Moors hope to be able to compete against top schools such as Montebello and put themselves in a position to win the Almont League title.
