The Alhambra varsity boy’s tennis team has commenced their preseason. So far the Moors have played three preseason games against the South Hills Huskies, Temple City Rams and the South Pasadena Tigers. Despite the close game against the South Hills Huskies, the Moors currently have a preseason record of 0-3.

“I think we got a really good team together this season, especially [in the] doubles. But we still have some way to go to [help get] the freshmen players into shape, which we can do during the preseason. So overall, I think we can do well in league,” junior Iric Hong said.

The varsity tennis team is constantly practicing to improve their skills. The boys practice Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. The team is improving on their basics such as working on fixing their serves and other small mistakes.

“We’re doing better. It takes time to improve; that’s what the preseason is for,” Head Coach Bill Yee said.

The boys’ varsity tennis team has a positive outlook on this year’s season. Both returners and new players are ready to show their skill sets. One of the goals of the team is to try to achieve CIF.

“We have great potential. We have three really talented freshman [for] our future. They just have to live up to their potential. We have a good core of seniors with experience that should take up through this year too. The program continues to be on the upswing. We are going to have a good season,” coach Yee said.

Their next game is against the Rosemead Panthers on March 8.
