Bullying is not a new problem, but it is one that has a profound impact on the learning aptitude of many students today. The cause of bullying could be that someone considers bullying fun and thinks it can make them popular, or it could be just that the bully was unhappy or jealous of another person; for whatever reasons, anyone can become a bully. Furthermore, there are many negative impacts that come along with bullying.

Bullying can affect everyone who is involved, including the bully, the bullied and the witnesses. Victims of bullying can experience negative impacts physically, academically and mentally. In severe cases they can face depression and anxiety, along with a decrease in academic achievement that might cost their jobs or ability to work in the future.

Despite the fact that bullying is rather common among American schools, there are many things students can do to prevent bullying from happening. Students should treat each other with respect and think before saying anything that could hurt someone. For those who have the urge to be mean to someone, find a hobby to do that can diverge a person’s attention such as playing sports or reading a book. If a person is regularly being bullied, seeking help from an adult can relieve psychological pressure as well as solve a person’s bullying issue. Everyone should keep in mind that no one is to be criticized or jeered at for being different and being different does not make anyone inferior. Only after when people become aware of these ideas, will the chances of bullying in school will decrease over time.

Bullying is unwanted, but as prevalent as it seems, it is something that we can prevent. Many cases of bullying go unreported because of people’s tolerance and ignorance. If we really want bullying to stop, everyone will have to take part in and contribute to an anti-bullying revolution.
