With basketball season quickly approaching, the Los Angeles Clippers will commence another competition as well. Although not as physically demanding as basketball, the High School Creative Writing Challenge is nonetheless demanding.

“[This] contest…[allows] students to feel confident in their writing abilties. Students need to realize the importance of communication and that their voice matters in the world,” English teacher Nicole Hasenbein said. “I would encourage [participating] students to remain positive and to not hold back on their creativity.”
This contest prompts students to submit either a short story, poem or personal essay about one of three potential topics.

“This contest will benefit […] participants […] by exceeding their limitations in learning how to express themselves. Passing up this offer would be like throwing away [a] chance to express what [some students are] passionate about,” sophomore Jenny Vuong said.

Upon registering, schools will be provided with a ‘tip sheet’ consisting of guidelines to follow. All submissions must be turned into the Clippers Administrative Offices by Jan. 29, 2016.

Also, according to the information packet, these same schools will be given the chance to receive a book bundle and school supplies.

As for the contest winners, only five will be chosen. All winners will be given a personalized jersey with their last name and number of their choosing.
