n end and league is just about to start for girls’ volleyball. The girls varsity volleyball team is determined to have a strong season this year. League games are coming up soon and the girls have been working hard during their preseason to be prepared to make it to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs.

“For the upcoming game, I expect the whole team to work their hardest! Making CIF is a goal and especially since league is coming up so soon, I know that everyone will work three times harder. On the court and off the court we each play an important role and in order to win, we each have to rise to our full potential to push through when the game gets tough. I believe in each and every one of the girls and I know that no matter what, I wouldn’t trade them for any other team,” backside hitter Toni Shyy said.

The team tried their best during preseason with a record of 2-5 and are going to come off more aggressive for their first few league games. They also practice in many different ways to help themselves and each other.
“The toughest thing about practices is rotations because someone will always forget where to go during serve receive or vice versa,” said captain Melody Luo.

Although the team has had some tough times throughout practices, it doesn’t mean that they haven’t been trying their best to fix their problems. Head Coach Brent has some input towards his team’s strength and struggles.

“I think our overall strengths [with] our girls that returned and we have a lot of seniors that played for three to four years, so they know how to handle the pressure when it comes time to play. My coaching stengths may be that I have been coaching girls for fifteen years. I started off slow and now I learned how to understand each team of girls more. My goal in coaching is to win but to also strengthen each players position to the best of their ability.” said Brent.

Coach Brent has a lot of courage in his players and he intends to help them in the best way to prepare for CIF. The team started off league with a 3-set sweep against the Mark Keppel Aztecs. The Lady Moors’ next game is on Oct. 6 against the Schurr Spartans.
