At the back-to-school assembly on Sept. 18, various clubs exhibited performances and presentations that demonstrated what AHS had to offer. Each year, the Associated Student Body (ASB) helps organize this assembly, aiming to welcome back students, refresh school spirit, and preview upcoming events, according to ASB Vice President David Huang.

To start off the assembly, MCs Justin Imaa and Taylor Thomas introduced three Academic Decathlon members, who represented their club in the school assembly for the first time. The members explained the competitions and activities that the club participates in, encouraging any interested students to join the team.

Next, ASB presented a video that promoted the benefits of purchasing an ASB card, which would allow students to receive discounts from businesses around Alhambra and free passes for sports games.

The AHS Cheer team then took the stage to rally the audience’s school spirit, proudly proclaiming “we won’t be beat, we are the best, we are AHS!” Afterward, the newly combined AHS Dance Team showed off their moves in a series of dances. The audience then took its turn to express enthusiasm, with each grade competing to do the best Moor clap, as led by the class presidents and representatives.

Shortly after, the Alhambra Mighty Moor Marching Band performed a piece that incorporated a repertoire of percussion, brass and woodwind instruments, alongside color guard members who spun green flags in harmony with the band’s melodies.

The All-Male Dance Team finished off the performances, including both a group number and three solo routines that earned many cheers.

ASB ended the assembly with a sneak peek of Homecoming, which they are currently in the process of organzing. The game and dance are scheduled for Oct. 23-24, featuring the theme “No Place Like Home.”
