As the Fall Executive Board begins the new school year, they have already prepared themselves to do what they can to encourage students to have “Moor” pride.
Hoping to raise some extra funds to beautify our campus environment, Executive is currently promoting an innovated type of fundraiser: test-driving cars.
The fundraiser is called “Drive One 4 Ur School” and was set up in conjunction with Alhambra Bob Wondries Ford dealership. The fundraising event is being held on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Third Street. Any adult with a valid driver’s license may participate in the event. For every car that is test-driven, Bob Wondries will donate $20 to AHS. Executive anticipates a donation of up to $6,000.
By involving those within the community, ASB hopes to bring the school community closer together by raising funds to improve our campus. Executive began to publicize this event at “Back to School Night,” which was held on Sept 17, to get students and new parents informed about this way to help support the school.
“We want to encourage students to bring their parents so that we can reach this goal,” said Executive Vice President Manee Luckanavanich. “We hope that this [event] will generate more school spirit and involvement with families of the community.”
With confidence to raise as much as they possibly can, ASB is certain that the funds will be used wisely. Whether it be lunch tables, plant life or anything that would be beneficial to improving our campus, the funds will be spent to increase the pride students have in attending AHS.
“We plan on using the money to improve [the school]. While we are open to suggestions, we have received some [ideas, such as] adding new lunch tables, investing in a new score board [for the Big Gym,] and landscaping certain parts of the campus,” said Luckanavanich.
As another incentive at the event, a raffle will take place. The winner of the raffle will receive a brand new net-book, or simply a small, lightweight version of a laptop. With the drawing taking place, Executive hopes that this will be an effective lure to draw the community in to participate in the event.
