Varsity Girls’ Softball Team Swings into Preseason

As the spring sports season starts, the varsity girls’ softball team works hard on fundamentals such as pitching, hitting and catching. Last year, the girls placed third in the Almont League. They also qualified to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and advanced to the second round. The girls’ goal this year is to become 2015 Almont League Champions, ultimately win CIF and become closer as team.

The varsity girls’ softball team started preseason strong with a 16-8 win against the San Marino Titans. They won their second game 11-1 on March 6 against Rosemead.

“The team is like my second family. We pick each other up when we’re down and I wouldn’t trade them for anyone,” sophomore first baseman Valerie Dorado said.

With 14 girls on the team, they practice every day during sixth period and continue until 5 p.m.The girls condition, run and work on their defense skills. They also do drills and pair up to work on their swings and pitches, emphasizing short hops and both backhand and forward hand pitches.

The Lady Moors won against the Covina Colts with a score of 3-1 and played their most recent game on March 13 against the Glendora Tartans.
