Future Business Leaders Head to State

Every year, AHS’ Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attends the Section Conference at Six Flags Magic Mountain. FBLA members compete in a variety of business-related topics, including Accounting, Management Decision Making and Securities and Investments. This year, the Section Conference took place on Feb. 28 and competitors were tested on their knowledge of their respective topics with a one-hour-long objective test that consisted of 100 multiple choice questions.
“I am very proud of all the members for trying their best [in their] sections whether they placed or not. It takes a great deal to wake up early in the morning and commit to academic ventures despite the bad weather we encountered. A lot [of] girls walked through the venue in heels when it was pouring late at night, but [they] kept a positive energy,” FBLA president Alison Lu said.
FBLA members who placed fifth or above qualified for the State Leadership Conference (SLC). Around 44 members from AHS competed, with Kylileo Zhong, Sharon Chou and Cindy Luo placing second for Entrepreneurship; Sharleen Mock and Moon Li placing third for Management Decision Making and Rosa Zheng placing third and Crystal Ho placing fourth for Personal Finance. Members who did not place will still be able to attend events held at SLC.
“I personally feel shocked and excited for making [it] into state. I [have] always liked business though did not have time to join FBLA until this year,” Zhong said. “I am proud that I can enter [SLC] with my fellow teammates; they are all very brilliant and intelligent individuals and getting to know each of them [is] another great experience in FBLA.”
FBLA’s upcoming and last competition of the year will be the SLC held in Santa Clara from April 9 -12.
FBLA members are preparing for SLC by holding study sessions in adviser Susan Trumpower’s room, studying from sample test materials and books, online resources and additional books provided by bookroom clerk Mandy Hubner.
“It’s going to be a grueling and arduous four days at the state competition. We have to make the most of it and make sure our efforts won’t go to waste,” Mock said.
