Varsity Girls’ Soccer Advancing Through CIF Ranks
The Varsity Girls’ Soccer team fought through the first round of CIF vs. Marshall High School
to reach the second round of the playoffs at Bloomington High School.

The varsity girls’ soccer team has completed their season, continuing their success as the Almont League Champions. They wrapped up the season with a 7-2-1 record.
The team advanced further in this season than they had in the last few seasons. For the first time in four years, they won their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff game and qualified for the second round.
“It feels amazing and very rewarding. We worked hard and I’m glad that we [went] to the [second] round of CIF,” defensive player Vivyana Prado said.
In order to advance through CIF, the girls practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Moor Field from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. They continue to condition, practice passes in space and work on communication skills.
The first round of CIF preliminaries was on Feb. 19 against the Marshall Eagles. Both teams had scored their first points within the first half of the game, causing the game to go into double overtime, which resulted in a 1-1 tie between both schools. After a gruesome 120 minute game, the Lady Moors won on penalty kicks, ending the game with a score of 4-3.
“I am so proud of my team for accomplishing [our victory] regardless of all the obstacles we have had to confront this season,” said captain Xiomara Diaz. “I am excited for what is to come. This is our first time we had made it past the first round [of CIF] in four years.”
Unfortunately, the team’s CIF bid came to an end against the Bloomington Bruins on Tuesday, Feb. 24 following a 1-2 loss.
The team aspired to advance past the third round and ultimately make Alhambra High School history by becoming the first girls’ soccer team to take the CIF Southern Division title, but fell a bit short.
