With California’s seemingly never-ending heat, athletes in the fall season are experiencing first-hand the struggles of practicing in the sun. The JV boys’ water polo team, however, spends their time refreshed in the water as they work tirelessly to improve and perfect their skills for their upcoming league games.

Finishing last season with a 3-4 record, the team continues to work on their techniques and battle strategies in order to improve. Having played four games so far the team currently holds a preseason record of 1-4 and are looking to their next match on Sept. 19 in the El Rancho Tournament.

“The team is performing very well this season. They’re a talented bunch and are continuingto improve their skills both on offense and defense,” Head Coach Adrian Lopez said.

Due to the new players that were recently recruited, the team has emphasized the importanceof passing the ball, keeping a good awareness of their surroundings and making sure everyone is on the same page. By practicing alongside their varsity teammates, the JV players has had the opportunity to prepare for future matches by improving on their treading, dribbling, passing and shooting with the more experienced players.

“In recent games I have seen that the team has a very good defense. We also seem to never give up no matter how difficult the team we are playing against seems to be,” senior flat Ivan Yu said.

With the strong shooters they have this season, the team is prepared to take more shots during each game. Lopez explained that with the more shots attempted during each game, the greater chance of scoring. With the team’s determination and ambition to win, the Moors are steadily preparing for any match that comes their way.
