Baseball Spotlight: Greg Saldate

With an all-star team, AHS  baseball has spawned players that have gained CIF recognition. Starting pitcher Greg Saldate has played on the team for four years, making varsity his sophomore year. The great experience he has attained will open doors for him that only an exceptional high school baseball program would allow.

How has winning so many titles affected your attitude towards the competition?

The expectations are always high. We’re probably the best team in the valley, and everybody wants to beat us. It brings a sense of pride, so every time we went out and played, we had to prove we were the best.

What is your best memory?

I have to say my favorite moment was beating Montebello last year to win League, where I pitched the entire game.

What important values have you learned from your years on the team?

We have a great coach, and a lot of lessons he taught us on the field transfer into life, such as responsibility and responding to adversity. How you respond to adversity shows your character, and Coach Gewecke’s program really built our character.

What are you going to focus on in college?

I’m going to play baseball at a junior college, hopefully transfer to a D1 school and see how far I can go from there. I also want to go into broadcast journalism or film.
