Softball Spotlight: Sylvia Romero
As the season came to a close for Lady Moors softball, they looked back with a mix of pride and trepidation.
Their Almont League record ended 4-6. The team won their first game at Bell Gardens, 15-0. Their second game at San Gabriel also resulted in a victory, 7-3. However, later games have prompted concern about their methods of playing.
The results were not exactly what was expected. They started strong in the beginning, but fell short in the last games. According to Co-Captain Sylvia Romero, they made a few mistakes, but should be able to improve next season. The final game of the season was on May 13, where the Lady Moors lost against Montebello.
“Our head coach may be leaving next year, so I hope for strong leadership in our next season,” said junior pitcher Maya Vasquez.
I’ve been playing since sixth grade, so joining was kind of automatic for me. Also, I already knew a lot of the girls on the team.
What were some of the proudest moments of the season?
I ran 26 innings without giving up the run in my first few games.
What’s next after high school?
I’m going to the University of San Francisco to study engineering. I plan on pursuing a career in construction management. As for softball, I may coach in the future, but for now I’m focusing on my education.
Any words of advice for the underclassmen?
Savor the moment, and have a lot of fun. It goes by really fast.
