On the night of April 5, over five hundred students attended Junior Council’s Prom. Held at the nearby California Science Center’s Wallis Annenberg Building, the dance began at 7 p.m. and concluded at 12 a.m. The site offered 32,000 square feet of scenery, including several water fountains and a Japanese garden.

“Our location definitely helped make it unique since it was one of the first Prom locations [with a] garden for people to walk around, along with the Japanese Garden on the second floor decorated with a lounge and […] lights that made Prom seem more intimate for couples who went together. […] At the same time, it was a fun atmosphere where friends could hang out and enjoy each other’s company,” Junior Council Vice President Deborah Lee said.

Aside from the dance floor, attendees had the option of visiting the activity room, which included casino games such as blackjack, craps and roulette.

“Everyone looked so happy in the activity room, dance floor and upstairs garden. All the positive social media feedback just reinforced how great […] Prom was for the seniors,” Junior Council President Vivian Chau said.

This year’s Prom theme was “Will You Take A Chance With Me?”, complemented by the colors navy and champagne.

“[Prom] was a great experience. The DJ was pretty good and the place was nice. [I enjoyed] the mini garden with the pond on the second floor; it was nicely decorated and relaxing,” senior Amanda Zhou said.

Prom Court was announced during the middle of the night; Vivian Li and Raymond Tang were crowned Prom Queen and King.

“I was really happy to know I won with Raymond, [but] it’s simply a title made by votes [and] I hope everyone had fun with their dates, because everyone had a king or queen by their side for the night.”
