It was a special day for Alhambra High School on May 7, when friends, family and administrators gathered to celebrate the scholarship signing of athletes Christian Caraveo and Tori Simper.
Caraveo, who has been playing football since the sixth grade, worked hard in his position of nose tackle, to become one of the best players in his defense position and varsity captain his senior year. He is receiving a partial scholarship, varying on his performance his fist year, to play football for Azusa Pacific University.

“I am very grateful that all my hard work has paid off. I am very proud,” Caraveo said.

Simper who started playing softball when she was six years old, strived to earn her position on the varsity softball team her freshmen year in high school. Now as a senior she is the pitcher of the varsity softball team, receiving a full scholarship- $17,000 in university aid- to play softball for the Indiana Institute of Technology.

“I am excited about being able to go somewhere new and I am glad that I will be able to continue playing softball,” Simper said
These athletes show that with dedication and working to your full potential, one can achieve anything one sets their mind to. They hope as alumni to continue to do their best in their sport and make AHS proud.

“It is an awesome achievement; they make themselves, their family and Alhambra proud. We will be watching their exploits and how they do,” Principal Brad Walsh said.
