Having placed first in Almont League every year since 2005, the varsity baseball team has worked hard to achieve this prestigious accomplishment yet again for the 2012 season. After a long season of successful games, the athletes placed first in league, thus ending the season with a record of 20-3. This year is the team’s eighth season taking the league title. In addition to their impressive record in the regular season, the athletes have also qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff matches that will take place in June.

“I feel confident [going into CIF matches] because the team is doing well and I think we have a better team than anyone else in the league,” catcher Brandon Morales said.

In their last season match, the Moors were triumphant against Schurr High School on May 11 with a final score of 12-2.

“I think our team is good enough to go far in the playoffs [because] I believe our team has the best offense and defense in the league,” third baseman Christian Maciel said.

All season long, the athletes have played to their ability by instituting an unwavering defensive strategy and a vital pressure offensive gameplan, as well as reinforcing fundamentals and drills taught in daily practices. These fundamentals have greatly improved the athletes’ decision-making on the field. Due to past successes in both CIF and League, the team is determined to add to their history of success in CIF.

“We need to make plays defensively and hit the ball hard; if we do that, I think we can […] do well [in CIF],” Head Coach Steve Gewecke said.
