As the fall season closes, the winter season begins as the JV boys’ soccer team is hard at work practicing many exercises and drills under the supervision of JV Coach Nabor Solis as they prepare for their upcoming preseason. The team starts the day off with fundamentals, including ball control, warm-up kicks and a mile-and-a-half run.
“Our goals are the same as always. I want to take my JV players to a whole new level by the end of this year. I want them to learn and get better. My expectations are high [because] I coach a good team,” Solis said.
According to the majority of the players, they feel like they have not been able
to communicate efficiently with one another, thus affecting their game play. To help, Solis has been teaching them how to play as one team rather than individual players who are not in sync. Another problem the team must overcome is the players’ academic grades. As a result, Solis has yet to decide on captains until he has an established roster.
“Right now, I think our biggest problem is grades. It’s definitely a problem we have to take care of and I would hate to let any players go,” Solis said.
The experience the team will achieve is a testament to the amount of time they have spent preparing for this approaching preseason, but they must prevail over certain issues to continue their progress.
“I think we need more work and practice because we are definitely lacking communication, but we have good skills and [talented] players,” sophomore goalkeeper Jose Lara said.
