AUSD Fundraises for Japan Relief

On March 11, a 9.0 earthquake struck near the east coast of Honshu, Japan. Though this would have been devastating in itself, the subsequent tsunami and nuclear plant meltdowns have rendered this a global tragedy.
In the midst of all this loss, however, there has been a staggering outpour of support and aid from various countries and organizations around the world, including the Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD).
In order to aid relief efforts, AUSD’s Board of Education held a district-wide money drive.
Fliers and envelopes were passed out to all third period teachers for students, parents and faculty to show support by donating money.
“It’s horrible that this happened to Japan, but we should help out any way that we can,” sophomore Mimi Truong said.
The monetary donations, which were collected on April 25, were later presented to the district. Approximately $1700 was raised.
“No amount is too small,” Superintendent Donna Perez said. “I believe that our collective efforts will make a difference to the victims of Japan.”
