Students had the chance to display their basketball skills at the annual Boys’ Federation Basketball Tournament on April 16. Sponsored as a way to have fun and show some competitive school spirit, students formed co-ed teams of three players each and competed against each other in hopes of possibly winning prizes at the end of the tournament. A rule requires each team to have at least one boy or one girl participating.
“The basketball tournament has been a tradition in Boys’ Fed, and it’s a fun event to bring the students out to have a [friendly] competition,” Boys’ Fed Vice President Anna Wu said. “The entry fees [were] used to purchase prizes for [the teams that played the best] so the money, in a way, goes back to the students.”
Despite the fact that Boys’ Fed does not make a profit from the tournament, they host the event because it has become a tradition. The event is mainly a way for the student body to come together for a day of camaraderie while watching, cheering or playing in the game.
Some prizes offered included gift cards, basketballs and T-shirts.
“It was definitely a great experience; I didn’t expect so many people to participate and bring so much competition,” said junior Emily Wong.
