Discovery Center in Alhambra Library

The Alhambra Civic Center Library has fully opened its Discovery Center, next to the Reese Hall on the first floor, to the public. Within the Discovery Center, there is a 3D printer, a button maker, an Oculus GO, a Cricut Maker, sewing machines and more; although, only the 3D printer and the button maker cost money. The 3D printer is 50 cents for 30 minutes and for the button maker, it is 25 cents per button.

Before using any of this technology, there is a one-time safety orientation for first-time users to ensure that the user knows how to use the device and to help protect them. The technology can be reserved up to one day at a time, but walk-ins are available if the device has not been reserved.

Having this technology available to the public is beneficial for the community. These resources could help the community with personal projects, or just for fun. Using the 3D printer and the button maker is affordable for anyone. In addition, the people who work in the center have knowledge about how to use each piece of technology. The 3D printer can help with projects and may help to create an outlet for creativity.

For students, this could be helpful for making projects more interesting and creative. Clubs could also use the button makers, for example, to help advertise for their clubs. The Discovery Center is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
