On Thursday, Jan. 30, Red Cross will be having their second blood drive of the school year. The blood drive will be taking place in the small gym during periods one through five.

In order to give blood, students must meet specific requirements. Students must be at least 16 years old and all donors have to be at least 4 feet 10 inches tall and weigh 110 pounds. Students must also be in good health.

According to the executive medical officer of Red Cross headquarters, Anne Eder, teens  are  more  susceptible to problems when donating blood. Some possible side effects include dizziness and slight bruising. “I wish the age requirement was lower since I meet the minimum weight and height,” sophomore Wenhui Lei said, “I wanted to donate.”

Hospitals will use the donations; a pint of blood can save three lives. Donors will receive a shirt and free slices of pizza.
