Moors Overpower Oilers in Tennis

Girls tennis strikes yet another win in their season. This time, the school that they overcame was Montebello, a school rival. This was the second game of the season and played a pivotal role in strengthening the confidence of the tennis team’s abilities.

“I felt much more focused after the game and it motivated me to try even harder for the coming season,” Junior Celina Yu said.

This match against Montebello also gave some of the newer varsity members a proving ground for themselves to measure their abilities against other schools. The newest varsity member, Katelyn Luc, definitely showed Montebello that she was a force to be reckoned with when she won two out of three of her singles matches, an impressive feat for a first year varsity member. “The most challenging part of playing singles is that you only have yourself to blame for your mistakes compared to doubles where it is a team effort,” Luc said.

The singles players were not the only ones who stood out, however, as those who played doubles also showed great skill. Long time doubles partners Celina Yu and Vivian Xu, who are both juniors, showcased great precision on the court as they won all three of their matches which is a very rare feat even for the most skilled of players. One of the reasons why they have been so successful is due to the trust that they have developed over the years as doubles partners.

“I think what helped me the most during my matches is knowing that I can trust my doubles partner,” Xu said.

The final score for the tennis match against Montebello came out to 13-5 giving Alhambra an overwhelming victory. The next game that Alhambra will be attending will be on Oct. 17. They will  be playing the Montebello Oilers again.
