On Jan. 17, the boys soccer team went up against Bell Gardens in an away conference game. The game ended with a score of 2-0 with Bell Gardens taking the win. The game began aggressively due to the muddy field. Both teams struggled to keep control of the ball and were stuck in a deadlock for the first half of the game.

Although Alhambra established a strong sense of defense throughout the game, Bell Gardens was able to break through and score in the last few minutes of half time.

“When playing against Bell Gardens, it felt like both teams were playing defense,” senior player Javier Gonzalez said. “The field still had huge puddles of water left over from the rain so it was difficult to keep control of the ball during the game.”

The unfavorable weather swept the field and left both teams scrambling to create a new game plan. Regardless the Moors progressed through and tried their best to score a goal. This allowed them to work better in sync through communication and callouts during the game.

“The best part about our team is that we stay focused during the game and remember to anticipate other players strategies,” senior player Alan Carranza said.

Although the Alhambra boys soccer team lost Thursday’s home game against Bell Gardens by a score of 2-0, the team was still proud of their performance. The Moors take the loss as an opportunity to grow from their mistakes. Since their first league game against Bell Gardens High School , the boys have managed to maintain some stability in their league standings. As of Jan. 19, the Alhambra Moors had a league record of 2-4-0 with 2 wins and 4 losses. Their next game will be Jan. 22 versus San Gabriel at a home conference game.
